Garden

Well, for someone who wanted to start a blog in part, to write about gardening, it sure has been a while since I blogged about my experiences with my square-foot garden. I have, in fact, been gardening this year. And, I have taken several pictures. As a matter of fact, my square-foot garden is coming along quite nicely. This year, I planted Romain lettuce, red lettuce, Juliet tomatoes, cucumbers, cabbage, red cabbage, peppers, cauliflower, and broccoli! Here’s how they are faring so far:

We love our local farmers market. But nothing beats growing fresh produce ourselves! If you are interested in starting your own square foot garden, I highly recommend the book entitled, All New Square Foot Gardening by Mel Bartholomew. I truly believe the secrets to the success of this square-foot garden are in Mel’s Mix, which is a mixture of soils & composts, and in the grid, which keeps you from planting too much stuff! (Secretly, I believe the success in my garden might come from the Starbucks coffee grounds!)
